LUBBOCK, TX — In an effort to better serve residents, one local news station added Chick-Fil-A drive-thru wait times to its morning traffic report.
Each morning, Channel 9 news anchor Sandra Pearson will go through each Chick-fil-A franchise location in the greater Lubbock area to break down the wait time for each drive-thru lane.
"Traffic is running smoothly in both drive-thru lanes over at the Milwaukee Avenue location, we're looking at about three minutes from entry to chicken," said Pearson. "But if you look over here at the Chick-fil-A on Slide Road, we've got a slowdown in lane one. I'm told there's a big catering order that's got things backed up, and there are reportedly a couple of trainees running the lane, so we're sitting at around eight minutes. We've also got a chicken biscuit spill that's created a bit of a delay in lane two over at University Avenue. There are crews out there working to get that cleared up, and normal traffic should be resuming shortly."
The station said its Chick-fil-A traffic coverage would also include live helicopter footage during the lunch rush, real-time waffle fry conditions, and push notifications whenever a drive-thru employee holding an iPad opens an additional lane.
"We know Lubbock residents depend on us to get where they're going on time," said station manager Greg Wilkins. "And around here, all of that hinges on how long you're going to spend in line waiting for that Christian chicken."
At publishing time, Pearson had issued a severe traffic warning after a caravan heading to a homeschool convention had descended upon the Quaker Avenue location.
