EGYPT — A remarkable discovery in what was formerly the Biblical land of Goshen indicated that, in addition to the traditional 10 plagues mentioned in the book of Exodus, Moses also threatened Pharaoh with a plague of unskippable YouTube ads.
Archaeologists uncovered a stone stele in Lower Egypt that could be the first Egyptian corroboration of the events of the Exodus. In the stele, an unnamed Egyptian prince who joined with Semitic rebels threatens Pharaoh Amenhotep II with mandatory YouTube ads that could not be skipped.
Researchers were calling it the YouTube Stele, and believed it was erected several hundred years after the estimated early date of the Exodus. And though its hieroglyphics were corrupted, with much of it worn away by time and the elements, experts said it sheds new light on what would have been a tumultuous part of Egypt's history.
"Not only do we know the Exodus was rooted in at least some truth as recognized by Egyptian officials themselves, but we know that YouTube existed long before 2005, which is just astonishing," said Sherif Fathy, Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. "Ancient Egypt was clearly more advanced than we ever thought possible. It had the Internet!"
Bible scholars concurred that the plague of unskippable YouTube ads could have played a large role in Pharaoh's final decision to let the Israelites go free. "Just put yourself in Pharaoh's position," one expert said. "It must have been horrific."
At publishing time, new evidence suggested that Moses was an expert hacker before he left for Midian after killing an Egyptian in an online game.
