ATLANTA, GA — Traveler Dale Galveston achieved a lifelong dream of boarding a plane in Boarding Group 2 at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on his way to New York City.
"I got a little teary-eyed, I won't lie," Galveston said.. "When they told me I was in Boarding Group 2, I knew I'd finally arrived. I jumped up and started pumping my fist in the air and yelling. The other passengers didn't really respond, but I know deep down inside they were so excited for me. I could see it in their eyes. My time had come."
Galveston said he had been so close in the past, with his last flight resulting in his boarding the plane in Group 3, and he knew Group 2 was coming soon. "I could feel it. I didn't despair," he said. "I just kept the faith. You can't lose hope."
Galveston's wife, Sarah, had no comment and kept her head down as her husband ran through the crowd of other passengers in line, trying to get a few high fives. "Please, sweetheart… just board the plane," one witness overheard her muttering.
At publishing time, the pilot had declined to let Galveston come up to the cockpit during flight and perform a celebratory barrel roll.
