VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis welcomed over a hundred comedians to the Vatican Friday but became confused when he saw Stephen Colbert enter the room.
"I thought I invited comedians. What on earth is he doing here?" Pope Francis was overheard.
Colbert, host of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, pretended not to hear the Roman Pontiff as he made several furious statements about how Trump was an existential threat to democracy and should be in jail and passed them off as jokes.
The Pope reportedly gave Colbert the benefit of the doubt as he waited on his personal interpreter, but when the translation came he scrunched up his face in disgust.
"Trump! He's going to murder us all! He's going to murder our democracy!" exclaimed a red-faced Colbert as he shook the Pope's hand. "If we don't stop him, we're all gonna die! Why is nobody applauding my hilarious joke?"
"There is a concerning air of 'frociaggine' about this man," the Pope was overheard saying. "And none of his jokes are funny. You say this guy claims to be Catholic?"
At publishing time, the Pope had issued an edict to excommunicate Colbert from the Catholic Church.
