LOS ANGELES, CA — Democrats gathered together outside the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, bearing candles and saying silent prayers on behalf of Jimmy Kimmel, whose show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was placed on hold indefinitely.
"So this is how Democracy dies," one attendee was heard saying. "America will never recover from this."
Jimmy Kimmel's show was pulled from the air after he made a blatantly false statement about the murder of Charlie Kirk, where he suggested MAGA republicans were "desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it." Unfortunately for Kimmel, the political points he scored from the comment and his unsuccessful attempts to make people laugh were not enough to keep his show on the air.
Kimmel declined to apologize for the comment, leading to his show's abrupt cancellation. Democrats immediately called it an attack on freedom of speech.
"In America, people are supposed to be able to say whatever they want without taking a hit in their TV ratings. That's what free speech is all about," Kimmel said before a crowd of tearful supporters. "I should be allowed to stay on the air forever, no matter how many lies I tell or how mad advertisers get or how low my ratings fall. Now, mourn for me. Mourn for me as you would George Floyd, or I will cancel you."
At publishing time, supporters accused Jimmy Kimmel of milking their sympathy when they suddenly remembered he was about to quit anyway in early 2026.
