WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following the announcement that the president had ordered the federalization of law enforcement in the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser warned that Trump's crime-fighting measures would unfairly impact criminals.
President Trump ordered the National Guard into action to begin patrolling the streets of the District of Columbia following ongoing incidents of violent crime, causing the capital's mayor to sound the alarm that lawbreakers would disproportionately bear the brunt of the initiative.
"Why should fighting crime focus so much on criminals?" Bowser asked during a press conference. "It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that our fascist dictator ‘president' is taking action that will single out a particular people group in our city. He has a track record of doing it before, and now he's doing it to our criminals. We must stand up to this tyranny and protect the important role the criminal element plays in the fabric and tradition of our city. Our criminals deserve better."
Trump remained resolute in the face of Bower's opposition. "It's a big mess," he said. "Our beautiful nation's capital, full of gangs and criminals. We're going to clean it up, believe me. We'll do whatever it takes. National Guard, U.S. Marines, the Avengers. I have the authority to do all of it because I'm the President. Let's not forget the biggest criminals, ok? The Democrats. We'll put them behind bars where they belong. Maybe El Salvador."
At publishing time, Mayor Bowser had set up emergency aid shelters to provide help and comfort to criminals impacted by Trump's anti-crime policies.
