WASHINGTON, D.C. — Bill Nye has just had his Presidential Medal of Freedom revoked after investigators unearthed an old hate speech in which the famous "Science Guy" claimed that a person's gender was determined by their chromosomes.
The retraction comes almost immediately after Nye was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden and has been followed by a public apology from the White House.
"Sadly, Bill has failed to live up to the high standards of modern science and basic civility," said black and gay Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who is black and gay. "We apologize for awarding this honor to someone who would so callously and anti-scientifically claim that biological gender is based on chromosomes. Bill's speech is not only hateful but also profoundly unscientific. May he turn from his bigoted ways to the true path of science."
In addition to losing his Presidential Medal of Freedom, Nye has been stripped of the title "The Science Guy," which will, along with his Medal of Freedom, be awarded to Dr. Anthony Fauci.
At publishing time, Nye had made a public apology to members of the LGBTQ+ community and had enrolled in several public high school biology courses to shore up his understanding of the 784 different human genders.
