BORDENTOWN, NJ — According to reports, a customer at Tricky Auto Repair located on South Egg Harbor Road successfully negotiated his vehicle maintenance down from a routine $75 oil change to a mere $2,000 full brakes and rotor replacement.
The shop's mechanic thought he had a fish on the hook when local man Ben Sorenson showed up early Friday morning for a quick oil change. However, they were astonished when the shrewd customer ended up leaving with a $2,000 bill.
"Okay, you drive a hard bargain," mechanic Ron Hovel had told Sorenson. "Look, we'll just do the oil change as requested — no strings attached — and throw in a full brakes and rotor replacement for just $2,000."
"Sold!" Sorenson had replied. The pair shook hands, and the deal was sealed.
"Wait, how did he do that?" the shop's manager had said as he watched Sorenson drive away three hours later. "That man is one of the shrewdest negotiators I've ever seen."
Witnesses speculated that Sorenson may, in fact, be a witch after he deftly negotiated his bill to be significantly larger after telling the mechanic he only wanted an oil change. "I've never seen anyone expertly negotiate with a mechanic like that. You can tell he's studied Donald Trump," fellow customer Phyllis Monsoon said before adding, "He left here spending 26 times more than he was originally billed. It was a master class."
At publishing time, Sorenson was last seen driving off to Denny's to celebrate his dominant negotiating performance with a Grand Slam Breakfast.
Heartwarming!
