DAYTON, OH — Five-year-old Liam Montgomery held a press conference for friends and family this week in which he announced he would be switching his obsessive interest in backhoes to an obsessive interest in dinosaurs.

"I like dinosaurs," Montgomery said by way of explanation. "They go ROOAAR!"

His family was reportedly shocked by the announcement.

"What happened to my little boy?" his mother lamented as she cried into her husband's jacket.

Montgomery's father admitted to feeling disappointed by the news. "I just bought him a new Tonka Backhoe," he said. "Do you know how much those things cost?"

Montgomery's best friend, four-and-a-half-year-old William Etherberry, however, appeared to take the news in stride, even offering to change their playtime to accommodate this newfound obsession with dinosaurs. "Ahh! Get away!" he said, miming a toy car driving away from a ferocious T-Rex. "Vroom!"

Montgomery took several questions from the press following the conference in which he indicated he still likes backhoes and would consider having them fight dinosaur toys.

According to experts, children routinely change their interests and a sudden change is nothing to worry about — especially at such a young age. "Dinosaurs are also really cool," said Dr. Walt Greenwich, a child psychologist and author. "They go roar."

At publishing time, Liam Montgomery had held another press conference to announce he was now interested in robots.
