WASHINGTON, D.C. — In an unusual gesture across a prominent social divide, President Donald Trump took the official step of recognizing Pride Month this year by hosting a soccer match right on the White House lawn.
In years past, Trump had been noticeably silent regarding Pride Month, choosing instead to issue proclamations observing National Homeowners Month, Great Outdoors Month, and Toyotathon. But this year, Trump decided it was finally time to celebrate gay culture by bringing LA Galaxy and Inter Miami FC to the South Lawn for an epic showdown.
"This is as gay as it gets, folks," Trump said in a Truth Social post. "It's so gay. Very, very gay. Maybe the gayest sport there is. Many people are saying it. The gays are going to love this. No one has done more for the gays than me — no one. It's the month for being gay, so enjoy the soccer match. But just this once. And to all our tremendous soccer athletes — we commend you for your bravery and standing up proudly for your lifestyle."
Trump continued, "Some people call it football. Did you know that? They do it in Europe and other places, apparently. Gay football. You have to say ‘gay football,' or people might think you're talking about real football. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
At publishing time, Trump had announced that Elton John would be performing the halftime show, adding that he "assumes soccer has one of those."
