U.S. — Apple TV series Ted Lasso has been renewed for a fifth season based on the strength of those three episodes that aired back in 2020 that were kind of okay.
After launching into its fourth season, which follows Lasso doing something or other, Apple announced that they would be bringing back the sitcom once more as a few people still retained fond memories of that decent three-week stretch.
"We're bringing back all the characters you know and love from October of 2020," said show producer Reggie Hansen. "You know, the one dark-haired grumpy guy that sort of growls all the time. The, uh, somewhat girl boss CEO person - you know, the one who was doing the plot to run the team into the ground, the story line we stole from Major League? Yeah, her. And, of course, Mr. Lasso himself. He's still got those good vibes you vaguely recall, high-fiving mascot cut-outs and whatnot. We're riding that wave out."
The renewal announcement drew a warm reception from fans who haven't watched the show in six years, but recall a few chuckles. "Oh cool, another season?," said local man Kevin Gentry. "That was the guy learning to be a soccer coach, right? It was kind of upbeat and positive, if I remember. It's been a long time, but that's pretty neat they're still doing their thing."
At publishing time, Ted Lasso producers had begun preparing for writing the fifth season by googling "Why did people used to like Ted Lasso?"
