U.S. — Real-world current events spilled over into children's entertainment once again, as VeggieTales released a new episode with an evil orange character who deports Mr. Lunt.
The episode, titled "Man, Orange Bad," depicts the VeggieTales world being thrown into chaos after the newly elected President Orange enacts aggressive immigration policies that result in the longtime character Mr. Lunt being detained and deported back to his home country.
"It's like a part of the fabric of the community has been uprooted," says Bob the Tomato in the episode. "We had no idea, but Mr. Lunt, as it turns out, has been living in Bumblyburg all these years as an undocumented gourd. President Orange sent his ICEberg lettuce troops into our city to round up all the foreign-grown vegetables. It's so sad. We've had our differences with Mr. Lunt over the years, but we never expected it to end this way."
The scary President Orange, however, revealed in the episode that this was only the beginning. "They've got to go home, folks," he is seen telling all citizens. "These are bad vegetables, believe me. With their questionable behavior and their gold teeth. These countries are not sending us their best produce. These gourds are welcome to come here, but they must do it legally. We have a beautiful country full of wonderful vegetables, and we're going to make it great again."
At publishing time, VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer announced that he was working on a follow-up episode in which President Orange cracks down on government funding for surgeries for vegetables seeking to transition into fruits.
