For those of you still actually keeping track of days and weeks in 2020, it's Labor Day weekend! Yay! I didn't really know much about Labor Day, so I searched, and here's what I found:
In the late 18th century, the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor organized the first Labor Day parade in New York City. Oregon was the first state to recognize the holiday, and the federal government recognized it in 1894. It was originally proposed for May 1st, coinciding with the Haymarket Affair when rioting unionists killed some cops with sticks of dynamite. President Grover Cleveland decided to recognize it in September instead, in order to separate it from the radical associations of May 1st.
