RED ROCKS, CO — Local concertgoers experienced a wave of dread Friday night when indie-rock front man Julian Vance announced the band was going to "play a little something from the new album."

Witnesses confirmed the energy in the amphitheater sank instantly, transforming a high-spirited mosh pit into a boring slog through the band's "experimental" phase.

"We really appreciate you guys being here," Vance said, completely oblivious to the audible groans coming from the crowd. "This next track is a ten-minute experimental electronic ballad inspired by the time we spent in our houses during COVID. It's called 'Echoes of the Void.'"

At that moment, thousands of fans decided they needed to use the restroom at the same time, causing backups in lines. The band, oblivious to the growing unrest, continued playing with unabated passion.

At publishing time, the entire crowd had returned to their seats and was politely nodding obligatorily, desperately hoping this was the price to pay to hear that one hit song from 2012.
