CHICAGO, IL — In a cruel denial of basic human rights, the Obama Presidential Library has disenfranchised millions of black Americans by requiring photo identification for entry.
The rule will prevent Library access to virtually all black citizens, who cannot obtain photo ID in the United States. Critics say this will essentially make Obama's Library a whites-only building, echoing the horrific discrimination of the Jim Crow era.
"It is absolutely disgusting that Obama would build a Library and then not let black people inside," said NAACP President Derrick Johnson. "The photo ID requirement at the Obama Library is worse than chattel slavery and Jim Crow combined. It's bad enough that we can't vote, but now we cannot even go inside the library of our first black President. How cruel can you get?"
Civil rights activists in Chicago have warned that the photo ID requirement at the Obama Library could directly kill thousands of black people. "Forced to stand outside in the scorching heat due to not being allowed in the library, the death toll could reach ten thousand per day," cautioned community organizer Latasha Vernon. "We are literally being murdered in the streets by this rule, and demand the Obama Library change its police immediately."
At publishing time, Obama had responded to the criticism by announcing that his library would still require photo identification, but only for white people.
