You've read the articles and laughed, or at least pushed a little air out of your nose. Now you can meet the people behind your favorite Christian news satire site. It's like the behind the scenes discs in the Lord of the Rings box set, except without Peter Jackson's soulful voice or all the motion capture technology.
Today, join us in a world of pure imagination as we meet Podcast Producer/Writer Dan Coats.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm 33 years old. I'm a husband, a father, and my only comfort in life and death is that I belong to Jesus. I wasn't really raised in the faith though I was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church, but I started going to some Calvary Chapels and Baptist churches in my high school years where I began to hear about God's love in Jesus Christ for sinners, started reading the Bible, and soon I was adrift in the massive ocean of American Christian culture. I wish I could say that I met Jesus and everything went smoothly afterward, but I probably spent way too many years wandering before the Great Shepherd used His rod to conk me on the head and his crook to drag me back to the sheepfold. In my college years, someone gave me a booklet with the ecumenical creeds and the "three forms of unity" which United Reformed Churches in North America confess. After I got married in 2012, we moved to San Diego and we joined a church in that denomination where Rev. Michael Brown was the Minister of the Word (you can hear him on the podcast episode, Preaching In Italy During A Pandemic). I grew up in the same hometown as Kyle and we went to the same schools, but we didn't become pretty good friends until our high school youth group. Oh, did I mention that I married Kyle's cousin? Yeah, that happened too.
