FLINT, MI — Parishioners of St. John's Lutheran Church say it was immediately obvious which kid didn't practice for the children's Christmas choir this year.

According to church-goers, 3rd-grader Abby Michaels "stuck out like a sore thumb" as the children shuffled up the church's center aisle and began singing their Advent carols.

"Abby probably should have at least glanced at the music before Sunday," said Derek Trent, a member of the congregation. "Children's choir doesn't need to be professional or anything, but breaking into 'The First Noel' while everyone else is still on 'Angels We Have Heard On High' still comes off as a little tacky."

Other congregants say that Abby stood on stage open-mouthed like a fish for the entirety of three hymns before improvising a "jazz-inspired" solo during "O Holy Night," much to the chagrin of Mrs. Carina, the choir director.

"I didn't realize she was going to have a solo," Carina said, later. "I don't think she knew she was going to, either."

At publishing time, congregants at St. John's had also reported that it was pretty easy to identify which kid had to go to the bathroom for the entire children's choir performance, too.
