U.S. — With the nation still in shock over the latest in an ongoing string of violence resulting in Americans being killed by illegal immigrants, Democrats warned that migrants committing murder could result in more people referring to them by the wrong term.

Following the murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, leading Democrats expressed apprehension that such unconscionable acts may lead to an increased risk of people cruelly calling the perpetrators "illegal."

"This is of grave concern to us," said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. "With more and more Americans being murdered by migrants, there is a genuine threat of something truly dangerous and tragic happening, including the wrong terms being used in reference to the murderers. We cannot allow this to happen."

Even President Joe Biden himself was not immune to being caught up in the uproar and publicly apologized to Riley's murderer for using the word "illegal" when referring to him. "The president is deeply sorry for any pain he may have caused this brave undocumented person of murdering," said White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre. "Our administration offers the killer our sincerest condolences for this harmful act and is willing to provide whatever support to him we can in this difficult time."

At publishing time, congressional Democrats were preparing to ram through legislation that would create stiffer penalties for anyone who referred to a person who enters the country illegally as "illegal."
