Some of you may not know this, but I was one of the last—if not the last—member of the Bee writing team to make it in through the application process. I wrote up 30 headlines, a silly cover letter, and one full, mostly funny article.
Kyle and Ethan must’ve thought I was pretty funny (or at least just felt bad for me) and I made it into the headline pitching group on Facebook. I knew I had a long way to go from there. One thing was for sure though: I had to take some chances.
I got my first article published on 4 September 2019. The article was titled University Of Kansas Labels 'My Pleasure' As Hate Speech and honestly I just felt really lucky that I had hit up Chick-fil-A that day which helped me come up with the headline. At that point, I knew I had potential at the Bee.
